Eva Goldfinger
Rabbi
Eva Goldfinger was raised in a Chasidic home in Toronto but as a feminist she was not willing to live the Chasidic/Ultra-Orthodox lifestyle, nonetheless remaining respectful towards all forms of Judaism. She went to university to become a neuro-surgeon then decided that she wanted to get into people's minds, more than their brains; thus she switched and became a therapist. Then Eva discovered Secular Humanistic Judaism and was excited by its commitment to Jewish culture while retaining an ethical, rational, and scientific perspective on life. She has been a certified Leader in the Movement since 1986 then got a BA and two MAs in Jewish studies and was ordained as a Secular Humanistic Jewish Rabbi. She has taught Judaism and Cultural Anthropology in Canada, the US and Israel since the 1980's, has officiated at all types of life cycle events including intercultural weddings, is the author of numerous Movement's texts, including "Basic Ideas of Secular Humanistic Judaism", the conversion/adoption program, grade school curricula, and scores of adult education programs. In 2022 she was awarded "The Sherwin T. Wine Lifetime Achievement Award" by the movement and looks forward to many more years of serving the Jewish Community.
